In an apartment or with shared parking, charging is more difficult but not impossible. Options include a charging station in an assigned parking space (possibly through the VvE), a charging station in a parking garage, or use of public charging stations in the neighborhood. VvEs can also realize a charging solution collectively; special charging solutions are available for this purpose that support multiple users and settlement per resident.

It depends a lot on the power source. If you charge on solar power or via a 100% green energy contract, then the CO₂ emissions are virtually zero. If you charge on the average Dutch power mix, then electric driving is still considerably cleaner than an average gasoline car - even though some of that power still comes from fossil sources. As the power grid becomes greener, the sustainability of electric charging automatically increases.

AC (alternating current) charging is the standard for home chargers and public charging stations: the conversion to direct current takes place inside the car itself, which makes charging slightly slower but provides cheaper infrastructure.
